CAPACITY FACTOR
The ratio of the gross electricity generated, for the time considered, to the energy that could have been generated at continuous full-power operation during the same period.
The ratio of the net electricity generated, for the time considered, to the energy that could have been generated at continuous full-power operation during the same period.
The ratio of the electrical energy produced by a generating unit for the period of time considered to the electrical energy that could have been produced at continuous full power operation during the same period.
A percentage that tells how much of a power plant's capacity is used over time. For example, typical plant capacity factors range as high as 80 percent for geothermal and 70 percent for cogeneration.
