METHANE
A colorless, flammable, odorless hydrocarbon gas (CH 4) which is the major component of natural gas. It is also an important source of hydrogen in various industrial processes. Methane is a greenhouse gas. See also Greenhouse gases.
A GHG. Conventionally not included in the category of gases called volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
A light hydrocarbon that is the main component of natural gas and marsh gas. It is the product of the anaerobic decomposition of organic matter, enteric fermentation in animals and is one of the greenhouse gases. Chemical formula is CH4.
