Definition Of:

Annular Preventer

Oil & Gas Field DictionaryOil and Gas Field Dictionary
A large bag-type pressure isolation component, usually installed above the ram preventers, which forms a seal in the annular space between the drill pipe or tubing and the wellbore. Compression of a reinforced elastomer packing element by hydraulic pressure effects the seal. Some annular preventers are capable of creating a pressure seal, even if pipe or tubing is not present in the wellbore.
